Project: PadLab

Padlab is a small design firm focusing on experimental materials, products, and small-scale architecture. The duo of architects needed a new online face to interact with a surge of new media attention to their work.

I collaborated with another small design firm, NONdesigns, to redesigned PadLab's identity graphics and website. We then created simplified templates so that the architects can maintain their own website at will.

The PadLab Identity

If you take walk through PadLab's studios, you'll probably find small stations of colorful and playful experiments interspersed with organized technical drawings. We wanted to mimic this informed mode of "play" in the PadLab identity so we used a variety of lively colors to match the studio, process, and personalities of the principals.

Our end result was a playful logo in a series of bright colors, and a few graphic elements dancing on an organized, legible, and modern backdrop.

Website

We created a fairly simple website for Padlab, with just four sections and an option of adding a retail space in the future. We then recreated the website in 5 different color schemes and programmed the site to choose a color scheme at random when the visitor arrives at the home page.

We also delivered a set of templates and instructions that made it simple to update the website as needed. Since the site's launch, Padlab has decided to choose a specific color scheme for each season instead of having it chosen at random, and they were able to make those changes on their own. :)
