Our Love Is Dead

Pet Shop Boys “Leaving”

Ugh I just love these lyrics so hard:

Our love is dead
But the dead are here to stay
They made us what we are
They’re with us every day
In darkest night
Their memory keeps us strong
And if our love is dead
It won’t be dead for long

I know when enough’s enough and you’re leaving
you’ve had a lot of time to decide on your freedom
but I can still find some hope to believe in

Pet Shop Boys, still dazzling after 30+ years. Can’t wait for the new record Electric next month! This and new Nine Inch Nails is gonna give me the shitty giggles!

Nirvana Nevermind

I can’t believe this came out 20 years ago. Been listening to this record today and thinking back to my early teens, feeling like oh well, whatever, nevermind.  Swimming with the sheep.

Nothing Compares 2 U / Gavin Castleton

My friend Mariqueen sent me this video a couple of years ago and it was brilliant then, but recently its been relevant because I’ve been doing a lot of live looping in my own songs and songwriting. This is one of the most beautiful renditions of one of the most beautiful songs.

Gavin Castleton covering “Nothing Compares 2 U” written by Prince and originally performed (also beautifully) by Sinead O’Connor. <3

Writing Beautiful Songs

I’ve had a lot of words used to describe my songs, but one day I’d like to write a “beautiful” song. There are a lot of better and more memorable songs out there, but this one seems so unplanned, as if it just spewed out the way great songs should. I usually find myself bursting into tears when she says “These are the contents of my head.” No other line could have been more honest and vulnerable and beautiful at that point. <3

[dropcap char=”Why” type=”text”/] by Annie Lennox

How many times do I have to try to tell you
That I’m sorry for the things I’ve done
But when I start to try to tell you
That’s when you have to tell me
Hey… this kind of trouble’s only just begun
I tell myself too many times
Why don’t you ever learn to keep your big mouth shut
That’s why it hurts so bad to hear the words
That keep on falling from your mouth
Falling from your mouth
Falling from your mouth
Tell me…

I may be mad
I may be blind
I may be viciously unkind
But I can still read what you’re thinking
And I’ve heard it said too many times
That you’d be better off
Why can’t you see this boat is sinking
(this boat is sinking this boat is sinking)
Let’s go down to the water’s edge
And we can cast away those doubts
Some things are better left unsaid
But they still turn me inside out
Turning inside out turning inside out
Tell me…
Tell me…

This is the book I never read
These are the words I never said
This is the path I’ll never tread
These are the dreams I’ll dream instead
This is the joy that’s seldom spread
These are the tears…
The tears we shed
This is the fear
This is the dread
These are the contents of my head
And these are the years that we have spent
And this is what they represent
And this is how I feel
Do you know how I feel ?
’cause i don’t think you know how I feel
I don’t think you know what I feel
I don’t think you know what I feel
You don’t know what I feel
